Plunge: Audience Editor & Contributing Writer

Whilst completing my master's degree at Cardiff University my cohort started a magazine brand from scratch. Plunge is the place for everything to do with cold-water wellness.

Whilst working on Plunge I was appointed Audience editor. In this role I met strict deadlines and spent time interpreting what our audience wanted to see by tracking KPIs and using analytics to ensure we could generate organic site traffic as well as traffic from social media. This enabled us to reach a wider audience and uncover what content worked for the brand. The role also gave me the opportunity to expand my knowledge of SEO optimisation while maintaining the Plunge website.

I fed back findings to the team and ensured we understood the mission of the brand, and from this wrote a strong mission statement reflecting the core values of the brand and values of our audience. Alongside the research that went into creating the brand and issues of the print magazine, I generated creative and exciting articles ideas, along with social media content to help build the brand to its fullest potential. In order to meet strict print deadlines for the magazine, I worked to meticulously sub-edit copy, ensuring it was ready for final page designs, and worked with the illustrators in the team to ensure the page design was coherent with the stories being told on the pages. I spent time ensuring each page was captivating for our audience by coming up with effective headlines and standfirsts for the copy, all the while making sure the flat plan was kept up to date so the team was aware of any changes. Communication within the team was essential to ensuring we met our deadlines within the four-week production schedule.
